Healing Lyme Disease 

 

Lyme disease is a tick borne illness that in the early stages of the disease affects people much like the flu or arthritis. It is a serious illness, many times you don’t even know you have, until you start to feel ill. I write this article today from a personal perspective, once again! My sister was just diagnosed with Lyme disease last week and even though I am sorry she must go through this, I am glad she was diagnosed and is getting treatment in the early stages of the illness. Lyme disease is a serious disease caused by a micro-organism transmitted by ticks, who are often no bigger than a freckle. Often times people will notice a tick bite followed by a bulls-eye of rings that go outward with the actual bite being the center. Antibiotics are the main course of treatment and seem to work well if the disease is caught in the early stages. Symptoms sometimes recur after antibiotics are withdrawn, however with symptoms are often not as severe. This is where natural treatments and support, used after the initial course of antibiotics, that address the disease as if it were a virus have had good success.

Deer ticks carry Lyme Disease and you should always check closely for ticks and tick bites when you have been outside. It is possible you can even come in contact with deer ticks in your yard. Initial symptoms you need to watch for are feeling as if you are coming down with the flu, with a stiff neck, chills, aches, and unusual fatigue, headaches, and joint pain. Lyme disease is often misdiagnosed especially if you don’t catch it in the early stages. Later stage symptoms of muscle spasms with racking pain, chronic bladder problems, arthritis, extreme fatigue, memory loss, facial paralysis and other nerve dysfunction. It can become a completely debilitating and lifelong illness.

Dietary Suggestions:

Focus on an anti-inflammatory diet, since inflammation is responsible for most Lyme disease symptoms. Eat a whole food diet rich in nutrients, including fresh fruits (especially pineapple), and vegetables, leafy greens and drink fresh green juices, whole grains, oily fish, nuts and seeds.

  • Avoid refined sugar
  • Eliminate gluten
  • Avoid dairy products, except for sugar-free yogurt
  • Avoid alcohol, tobacco, all refined and caffeine-containing foods
  • Omit red meat and starchy foods

  • Vitally important a Good Multivitamin/Mineral
  • Probiotics
  • Zinc
  • St. John’s Wort
  • Oregano oil or Olive Leaf extract capsules
  • Turmeric (Curcumin)
  • Quercetin with Bromelain as an anti-inflammatory
  • Echinacea
  • Garlic
  • N-acetyl-cysteine (NAC)
  • Astragalus Extract Capsules
