Aroma Therapy (Part 5)

Aromatherapy is the use of plant materials and aromatic plant oils, including essential oils and other aroma compounds for improving psychological and physical well being.
Today I’m going to go back to the basics and talk about the different Application of Essential Oils in depth.
Diffuse: The easiest and simplest way of putting the oils into the air for inhalation is to use an aromatic diffuser. Defusers that use a heat source (such as a lightbulb ring) can alter the chemical make up of the oil and it’s therapeutic qualities. A cold air diffuser uses room temperature air to blow the oil up against the nebulizer. This brakes the oils up into a micro fine mist that is then dispersed into the air, covering thousands of square feet in seconds. The oils, with their oxygenating molecules, will then remain suspended for several hours to freshen and improve the quality of the air. The antiviral, antibacterial, and anti-septic properties of the oil, as well as negative ions, kill bacteria and help to reduce fungus and mold.
Direct Application: Essential oil’s can be applied directly on the area of concern using 1 to 6 drops. More oil is not necessarily better; one to three drops is usually adequate. Some oils may need to be diluted with a pure vegetable oil.
Body Massage: If massaging a large area of the body always dilute the oils by 15 to 30% with a pure vegetable oil.
Feet Massage: Your feet are the second fastest area of your body to absorb oils because of the large pores. Three to six drops per foot is adequate to experience a feeling of peace, relaxation, or energy.
Auricular Therapy: Applying essential oils to the rim of the ear is known as articular therapy. As with the feet many internal organs have nerve endings in the ears. Try using different oils on the ears to help with emotional clearing.
Baths: Add 3 to 6 drops of oil to 1/2 ounce of a bath and shower gel base and add to the water while the tub is filling. The number of drops can be increased as you become accustomed to the oils. I like to put a few drops of Lavender oiled in a bag of Epsom Salt; mix well, and let sit for a few house for the oils to disperse. Then add 2 cups of the Epsom Salt mixture to a hot bath while the tub is filling up. This is a great way to relax before bed.
Purfume or Cologne: Wearing the oils as perfume or cologne can provide not only a beautiful fragrance but also some wonderful emotional and physical support. There are a lot of pieces of jewelry on the market now, that are made for wearing essential oils. These are very handy because most contain a small piece of Lava rock to apply your oil to.
